Due to the amount of rain yesterday and today the NZ Saloon Champs will be re-scheduled. The re-scheduled date is the 4th & 5th March but this will have to be confirmed by Speedway NZ. This event will also now have to be a full re-run. The promotion team thanks all teams for their patience this weekend but the weather can’t be helped. Keep checking back for more information regarding confirmed dates.
2011 New Zealand Saloon Championship
Presented by: Lower Hutt Power Tool Centre
It’s just over 10 years since the last time Wellington Speedway held a national Saloon Championship and this 2011 New Zealand Saloon Championship is looking like it’s going to be big! All the big names in Saloon racing are expected to be here, with 1nz Steve Williams the current man to watch. Qualifying will be held on Friday Night and Finals on the Saturday. Expect all our local Wellington cars to be giving everything they have to bring the title here for the first time.
Also, Friday night will see the running of the Wellington Super Saloon Championship with a big field of cars expected in this class too. Wellington drivers 4w Paul Hodson and 21w Donald Gregory will be our best local hope of taking the title as they are the only two cars to have any track time here this season. You won’t want to miss this action!
But wait, there’s more…
On both nights, the Minisprint Class will be running the 2011 Showdown in the Windy City. A field of 20-22 cars are expected to front with four-time New Zealand, North Island & NZ Grand Prix Champion Shaun Cooke already entered. The format will be different and drivers will do everything they can to pick up the win. Friday night will be all about staying safe while gaining points and Saturday will be all about taking the Silverware!
