After 2 seasons of meetings being rained out every time the words Superstocks appeared on the programmes here At Max Motors Family Speedway, it would appear the curse has finally been lifted as the hills reverberated to the roar of the 31 Superstocks that descended on Te Marua to contest the 2012 North Island Protecta Insurance Superstock Champs.
The competitors were divided into 2 groups that ran 3 heats each in order to whittle down the field to 26 drivers for tomorrow nights final.

Support classes for the night were CDC Concrete Streetstocks where the numbers were boosted by long-distance travellers 48I Trevor Nelson, 37I Arnie Tahura, 47I Peter Knight and the 3NZ from Dunedin Paul Simon. 3NZ showed his class in winning the first 2 races and was only prevented from making it 3 from 3 by the teamwork displayed by 81W Brian Hughes who, succeeded in blocking and slowing the 3NZ every lap, allowing teammate 18W Clive Rogers to take the chequered flag.
The Moving Company Saloons had a smaller than average field tonight but still managed to produce some exciting racing and the spectacle of Brian Comerford’s new Supersaloon. The first two races saw great battles between 11W Ian Shingleton and 10W Todd Moffatt with Moffatt taking the honors on both occasions. The final race saw ‘young’ Vic Abbott again waving the chequered out the window of a race-car after pulling off a fine pass on Moffatt. Unfortunately Comerford’s night came to an inglorious end when he collected the wall and had to be towed from the field.
The Resene Paints Production Saloons saw regular visitor Marshall Harris 5V have a successful night pulling off 2 seconds and a win. Tim Gaskin 32W was the only Wellington driver to outshine him with 2 wins and a 3rd place.
