Rain cancels this weekends racing

Unfortunately this weekends club meeting at the Max Motors Wellington Speedway has been cancelled due to the weather. The rain through the week has left the infield, carpark & parts of the pits underwater. We are looking for a suitable date to reschedule this club night. Check back next week for more info.

Fantastic Night Of Features Caps The Season
Updated with images

The programme was jammed packed this Saturday night at Max Motors Family Speedway as the Wellington Speedway Society tried to catch up on all the events that the previous weeks of rain had curtailed such as the final round of the Friday Homes Superstock Tri-series, the Wellington Champs for Streetstocks, Ministocks and Superstocks plus the scheduled Capital Pools and Spas Ultimate Knockout 3 for Stockcars and of course the ever popular Demolition Derby.

Originally scheduled for February the 3rd round of the Friday Homes Superstock Tri-Series was finally able to be run. There were some interesting visitors running for the first time in the Tri-series such as the hot form drivers of the moment 2nz Jordan Dare and 971p Jayden Ward, we also saw Randall Tarrant take the step up from Stockcars to the Superstock class in the 5w. Completing the Tri-series novice list were 661p Bryn Liddell, 38p Rangi Dykstra, 571p Jayme Hemi and in the 85w Richie Ryder .. Read On...

Full Night Of Features Produces Great Racing & Deserved Winners

After weeks of rain, finally a meeting at Max Motors Family Speedway that was able to be run and completed. The Burger King Pro-Dirt Series produced a stellar field of 19 cars which were split into 3 groups, who took to the track two at a time to decide their grid places for the feature race. In the first heat, the Quin Garages group versus the Moving Company group, we saw 24a Ben Harding take the lead from the off, closely followed by 6b Grant Flynn and 9w Mark Pitcher.. Read On...

Boys & Girls Ministock Invitationals & Wellington Modified Champs

The Wellington Speedway Ministock Invitationals were held on Saturday 25th February at Max Motors Family Speedway.

Keith McPhee and his team have been organising these annual events for 3 years now so have it running smoothly, you can only guess how much work and hours are put into organising a fantastic night like this. The first event was in the year 2015 with 13 girls and 30 boys, so has grown considerably, with cars from all over NZ coming here to race and even 5 from Australia. What a great night with 30 boys and 24 girls all aged from 12-17yrs of age... Read On...

New Zealand Minisprint Title Finally Decided

This week at Max Motors Family Speedway the program featured the Bodyworks Panel and Paint NZ Minisprints as the main attraction. Not known as a class that attracts a lot of spectator interest here in Wellington the NZ championship had however managed to pull in a reasonable amount of viewers by the advertised start time of 7pm.

Everything seemed to be going to plan when a number of drivers appeared out on the infield to be interviewed by Alan Buxton in the Before the Green Pre-show and the rest all appeared for a photo session and the National Anthem to kick off the event but little did the crowd know of the drama unfolding behind the scenes. Due to protests nothing was seen of the Minisprint class until after 9pm when they finally took to the track... Read On...

Gaskin Prevals To Keep Wellington Stockcar Title Local

After several abortive attempts to run a meeting the weather finally played ball and the crowds descended on Max Motors Family Speedway to watch the Capital Pools and Spas Wellington Stockcar Champs although a fair number of the large crowd would have been drawn to the track by the prospect of watching the Maidstone Yamaha FMX Stunt Show that was also on the programme. Daredevil riders Andrew Jackson and Stu Ewing treated the fans to a variety of gravity defying stunts showing their courage, skill and possibly a little bit of insanity.

The Capital Pools and Spas Stockcars attracted a number of Palmerston North visitors including reigning Wellington champion 669p Brendon Tye, 9p Justin Cunningham, 24p Stu Sowry, 72p Tony Norman, 15p Luke Miers and 882p Brandon Jurgeleit to vie for this season’s coveted Wellington Champ title. Their first heat saw 9p Justin Cunningham become the first DNF after a meeting with the wall. .. Read On...

Huge Boxing Day Crowd Treated To Smashing Night Of Action

After several abortive attempts to run a meeting in the past few weeks it was all go at Max Motors Family Speedway on Boxing Day. The programme contained three features of note, the Wellington Saloon Champs, the Wellington Minisprint Champs and the ever popular Valley Battery and Tyres Demolition Derby. In the Before the Green Pre-show Alan Buxton entertained the large crowd with interviews of 85w Saloon driver Lance Anderson, 9w Ministock driver Cyrus Crook and 1nz Minisprint driver Jamie Larsen.

The Bodyworks Panel and Paint Minisprints drew drivers from several different tracks to contest their Wellington Champ title. These included 23h Johnathon Martin and 46v Trent Leslie both of whom were newcomers to the Te Marua track. The current 1 and 2NZ’s Jamie Larsen and Dean Cooper and on form drivers 48p Christian Hermansen, 41p Shane Dewar and 93p Karl McGill all joined local hope 4w Shane Simpson as favourites to take the title. In their first heat 1nz Jamie Larsen had the front grid and the jump on the rest of the field at the off.. Read On...

Saloons Turn On Action To Kick Off Tri Night Series

The threat of imminent rain and the gale force winds all contributed to the reduction of crowd numbers here at Max Motors Family Speedway this Saturday night; however there was still a small nucleus of Wellington stalwarts there who braved the elements to watch the featured class –The Coventry Cars Saloon Tri-Series.

14 cars took to the track for the first heat of the inaugural running of the Coventry Cars Saloon Tri-Series however; this was immediately reduced to 12 when both 4w Rodney Green and 34w Matt Eckersley retired to the infield before the off. 6w Dean Munn made a good start and took the lead for the first two laps until 9w Craig Burton, carrying on his good early season form, came from grid 6 to take over the front running which he held to the chequered flag. Martin Halcrow, driving daughter Ashleigh’s 242w came storming up from grid 9 making some good passes on his way to 3rd place behind 63w Dave Speirs. .. Read On...

Fireworks On & Off Track Draws Huge Crowd

The weather was uncertain with drizzle and the threat of rain but for once it didn’t deter the public and a huge crowd descended on Max Motors Family Speedway for the Rock FM Fireworks Supershow meeting on Saturday night, and if the crowd reaction was anything to go by the show was a great success. Of course the evening was not just a Fireworks show there was also Speedway racing on offer giving great value for money. Although the start of the racing was delayed by the late arrival of the ambulance due to mechanical breakdown the time waiting was well filled by the Before the Green pre-show with Alan Buxton, a Grand Parade and the Cycle Science Fat Bike Challenge where we saw the Wildcat mascot take on Max from Max Motors and actually beat him to the chequered flag.

The first class out on track when racing started was the Coventry Cars Saloons. The local field was joined by 17b Sam Croy and 27b Josh Smith. For those of you that noticed a random P in the mix and wonder why we are not including the 57p as a visitor, Calvin Honore is such a regular sight here that we consider him a local. The 242w of Ashleigh Halcrow was driven by her father Martin on the night due to Ashleigh’s absence. In their first heat 9w Craig Burton had a start to finish win but was put under immense pressure by 27b Josh Smith who finished 2nd.. Read On...

'16/'17 Season Underway In Spectacular Style

After the past couple of weeks of rainy weekends and rained out practices the weather finally fell into place for the Opening Night of the Wellington Speedway’s 2016/17 season here at Max Motors Family Speedway in Te Marua. Obviously the crowds had been champing at the bit as much as the drivers had with the stands filling up well before the scheduled start time of 7pm.

The CDC Concrete Drilling and Cutting Streetstocks started the evening with a hiss and a roar as a large field of 15 took to the track for the first race of the season and what a race it was. The action started from the off and before the race was too old the crowd was thrilled when, in retaliation for earlier attention, 6p Mark Speirs bestowed the honour of the first roll-over of the season on 88w Mark Brosnahan and what a rollover!.. Read On...

This was followed by the Cycle Science Fat Bike Challenge where Max finally registered a win by beating the Wellington Wildcat mascot.

The Capital Pools and Spas Ultimate Stockcar Knockout had two 10 lap heats to find the quarter finalists who would race in the 6 car and 6 lap knockouts. In the first heat all of the 28 cars entered took to the track. In their first heat 92v Jemma Barnes led from the green only to be overtaken by the 8s Erin Uhlenberg who built up a commanding lead that she held to the finish. 16m Sarah Harris was pushing hard for the lead only to have things go wrong on the last corner and see her drop to fifth place. 4w Amy Eckersley made up plenty of places coming up from grid 14 to finish second, 52b Domonique O’Brien made even more passes coming from grid 17 to finish third... Read On...
