Demolition Derbies are a huge part of Wellington Family Speedway. Every year drivers turn out in former road cars turned destruction machines to do battle around the dirt oval. This year we have added an exciting Caravan and also a Dunny derby too!
A Demolition Derby will be held on each one of these dates.
- October 24th – Caravan Derby
- December 27th – Dunny Derby
- March 12th – Demolition Derby
- April 9th – Demolition Derby
Our demolition derbies are held under the General Rules and Regulations of Speedway New Zealand. There will be a Drivers Briefing held in the Clubrooms at 5.30pm on the night of the derby with Darrell Mellow (Clerk of the Course). All drivers registered in the derby must attend this meeting. This meeting is compulsory and non-attenders will not be allowed to participate in the derby.
Rules.
- All vehicles must be scrutineered and must comply with the specifications of Speedway New Zealand derby rules October 2010 version.
- Scrutineering will commence at the track by the clubrooms at 4.00 pm. During Scrutineering you will also have your overalls and helmets checked. All drivers must be present at 4pm for scrutineering. Until you have completed both scrutineering and payment of the derby you will not be permitted to enter the pits with your car.
- Payment of money and also completion of licence forms will be completed following scrutineering.
- At commencement of 5.30pm meeting in the clubrooms there will be no more scrutineering or processing of licences.
- A parent / guardian must complete licence form for competitors between the age of 16-18 years.
- Any person under 16 years is not permitted to race.
- Anyone abusing the scrutineers of the derby will not be permitted to participate in the derby, the rules of the derby are as per requirement of Speedway NZ and are there for your safety & the safety of the other drivers
- Speedway Promotions Wellington reserves the right to alter the format at any time.
- The Judges decision is final (all cars must make contact with other mobile cars every lap).
- Those not wanting to remove their cars at the end of the evening can leave their cars behind, parked over by the clubrooms where they will be removed by Speedway Promotions Wellington. You are responsible for removing everything you want from the car before you leave. As of midnight on the night of the derby any car not removed becomes the property of SPW.
- Any cars being removed from the track premises are to go on trailers. NO CARS ARE TO BE DRIVEN OUT OF THE SPEEDWAY UNLESS ON TRAILERS.
- Anyone found to be driving derby cars either in the carpark or on the roadway will be banned from entering any further Derby’s.
- No entry refunds.
- Cars must be registered prior to the derby as numbers will be allocated, we require full name, & a contact phone number.
