Fuchs Lubricants Sprintcars
With an impressive 800hp and just over 600kg’s, Sprintcars truly are Motorsport machines. Easily the fastest car to navigate the dirt oval, Sprintcars offer close, wheel to wheel action every time they hit the track. Whether there are 6 cars or 20 cars in an event, these big winged monsters always put on a show. The combination of no starter motors or gearboxes, mixed with V8 engines makes these purpose built cars very popular not only here but also in America, Australia and Canada. Every year, experienced USA drivers come down to NZ to Challenge our best and this provides extra entertainment for the fans!
More FM Super Saloons

Adrenalin pumping high-octane speed beasts, Super Saloons are the V8 Supercars of New Zealand Speedway. Sleek and mean, these highly evolved thorobreds of the dirt oval are perennial crowd pleasers. They’re fast, formidable and their design and set up is such that they are almost as fast through the corners as they are on the straights. The sheer width and speed of Super Saloons makes it an unenviable task to challenge or pass without a reasonable amount of skill and timing. A miscalculation or inadvertent squirt on the gas generally results in a reasonable amount of damage and destruction too.
Stockcam Superstocks

These are the undeniable stars of full contact motor racing. Superstock drivers are the ‘Tough Men’ of New Zealand Motorsport. They are pilots at the helm of 1500kg of high performance, fully reinforced super-powered racing machines that can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $150,000. With up to 500hp to call on, the potential for high speed bumper to bumper action and thrills is realised at almost every turn. Some are built for speed and others are built to dish out punishment. The combination of both can be explosive!
C&M Transport Modifieds

The ‘Winged Warriors’ of New Zealand Speedway. Easily recognisable by their oversized roof mounted aerofoils, the Modifieds are among the fastest dirt track racing machines in the country. To see these machines turn and change direction so abruptly at speed is something to behold. Throwing the car sideways into the corner and relying on the downward force of the wing, as well as good acceleration and split second timing is a key factor in achieving victory in a Modified. However, make on little mistake in judgement, and you’re driving nothing short of a high speed metal tumbleweed!
Tommy’s Real Estate Minisprints

Intended as a feeder class to Sprintcars or a class for Ministock drivers to step into, Minisprints are fast becoming a big class at Wellington Speedway. Based on a Midget Chassis with a small capacity motor and big wing, Minisprints have provided some amazingly close racing in the past and look set to continue this in the future. The specifications of this fast paced class are quite easy to follow with 1340cc maximum engine sizes. Most people tend to run Nissans, Fords or Toyotas. All engines must have original crank and stroke and may run on methanol fuel. Midget sized chassis with Midget running gear and weighing a minimum 420kg, this class is always one to watch!
Hirepool Stockcars

These guys define the saying “Go Hard, or Go Home”. Consistently spectacular performers season after season, the Stockcars might lack the power and big budgets of the Superstocks, but they more than make up for that shortfall in bravery, courage and sheer guts. They hit, and hit…and hit again. What these guys call fun, others might call terror, or even suicide!
The Moving Company Saloons

While not having the same speed and horsepower as the more powerful Super Saloons, the Saloons are nonetheless quick, and with the right set up and handling, can give the ‘Big Boys’ a run for their money. Introduced as a more affordable option of Speedway racing than the bigger budget classes, the Saloons are proving to be a popular and competitive class in their own right.
Goodyear Streetstocks

Most likely the last bastion of the great three way battle between Holden, Ford and Chrysler, the Streetstock class perpetuates the excitement of big bodiedroad cars jostling and bumping their way to the front in search of victory. A ‘limited contact’ rule means you won’t see the gut wrenching hits as with Stockcars. You will, however, see things no normal road car should ever do. With no performance modifications or enhancements allowed, it is down to driver ability to be able to negotiate the field and avoid being spun. This is a class where the names HQ, Monaro, Charger and Falcon are still common, and greatly appreciated.
Retko Haulage Youth Ministocks

One of the fastest growing classes in Speedway, Ministocks introduce newer competitors to the exciting fundamentals of stockcar racing. As a youth, or entry-level class, Ministocks have gathered favour with fans throughout the country. With very limited horsepower and strict rules regarding contact, these ‘pocket rockets’ nevertheless hold all the elements of exciting and spectacular bumper to bumper action.
Resene Paints Production Saloons

An entry level class for those wishing to get into speedway. Production Saloons were formally run as Production Escorts in a one make class at Wellington. Being opened to all makes now Production Saloons were introduced in the 06/07 season after the Escort class were disbanded. With very few modifications allowed, any advantage gained on the track boils down to pure driver skill. The production Saloons are renowned for their tight close racing where one little slip up can cost six or seven positions instantly. The formula for victory in this class is a mixture of good setup and consistently good driving lines.
